Ageing With A Beautiful Smile
Implant dentistry can be an excellent way to restore any missing teeth
This procedure replaces the tooth root with a titanium dental implant post that is inserted into the jawbone during a small surgical procedure. Dental implants can provide a long-lasting solution for tooth loss; if properly cared for, dental implants can last for decades or we hope for life. Then there are the benefits for oral health. Dental implants help ensure any natural teeth will not shift out of place and that the correct relationship between the upper and lower jaw is maintained, spreading the load created during biting and chewing so teeth wear evenly.
Planning for Dental Implants
Every dental implant procedure is carefully planned and you will need an initial consultation to assess your suitability. While most people will be able to have this treatment, we may not recommend it in certain situations, where someone may have medical conditions that could affect healing. We want you to fully understand the implant procedure, from start to finish and we will discuss this with you during your first consultation but please do ask any questions you may have. The next step is to carry out some diagnostic tests that include a CT scan and x-rays. These allow our dentist to identify the best location for each dental implant. Good planning is essential to make sure the finished implant looks and feels natural and is able to be fully functional.
The Implant Procedure
The actual process to insert the implant is reasonably quick with a single implant taking less than an hour to place and this procedure can often be carried out under local anaesthetic. Afterwards we will provide detailed advice on keeping the implant site clean while it heals. If the missing tooth is visible then we can provide a suitable replacement until the implant is ready to receive the crown, bridge or denture. This is the final part of implant rehabilitation and once your new tooth or teeth are fitted, you should be able to eat and smile with complete confidence.
Single / Multiple Implants
Why Replace s Single Missing Tooth with an Implant?
It is always important to replace any tooth as soon as possible after its loss, as even a single missing tooth can have a destabilising effect on your remaining teeth, enabling them to drift out of position. A dental implant is an excellent and long-lasting solution. Although we can replace single teeth with bridges we will need to cut down the adjacent teeth so they can support the bridge. This can mean cutting down perfectly healthy and strong teeth which is something we never like to do. A single dental implant is supported by the jawbone so we will not need to adapt your existing teeth in any way.
Using Dental Implants to Replace Multiple Teeth
Dental implants are excellent for replacing multiple teeth as they can be used to support bridges, including full-arches of teeth and we often recommend them for denture wearers. Full dentures are a cost-effective but far from perfect solution for replacing missing teeth and after just a few years dentures can become loose and uncomfortable, making it increasingly tricky to eat and speak properly without them moving around. Dental implants can hold full dentures securely in place, eliminating discomfort so wearers can eat a far greater range of foods and can talk and socialise without fear of the dentures moving out of place.
